MAZDA APEX:
Quarter scale model, with 3- stage paint
Alias wire frame with surfaces
This project developed as my senior thesis at Art Center. My goal was to develop
an "image car" for Mazda. Inspiration was pulled form the RX series' unique rotary
powerplant, as well as Mazda's incredibly rich racing heritage. The final design is
entitled the Mazda Apex; derived from the rotary engine's triangular components,
as well as trom racing vernacular used to describe the climax of a turn.
Below are the three key sketches that ultimately lead to the
final design, proportion, and surface characteristics.
